Introduction
The group has approx. 140 employees as well as approx. 30 hired. The managing director is Anders Lægreid. NOAH AS is wholly owned by Gjelsten Holding AS.
The main process in the treatment is the neutralization of ferrous sulfuric acid. Another waste product, namely fly ash from incineration plants, is used in this process. Other waste streams containing heavy metals are also led into the neutralization process, where the heavy metals are bound and detoxified. The result is an iron-containing gypsum slurry. This is pumped into the two open pits on Langøya, created through over 100 years of extraction of limestone. Here, the plaster forms a foundation that will be the starting point for rehabilitation and reproduction Langøya as it appeared before the limestone extraction.
NOAH receives hazardous waste and contaminated masses from Norway and Scandinavia as well as smaller quantities from certain other European countries. The treatment plant is robust and has a large capacity.
NOAH's operations have great environmental significance in that significant quantities of environmentally hazardous substances are taken out of the cycle.
